We are excited to share the news of a unique educational opportunity for all children entering the sixth grade:
The Sixth Grade Charter Academy at Petaluma Junior High School
Continuing with our district commitment to provide innovative and rigorous learning opportunities, the sixth grade charter school, established in 2011, focuses on integrated curriculum, elective offerings and technology-assisted learning. Our two highly skilled teachers work in concert to provide meaningful connections between the curriculums with an emphasis on higher-order thinking skills. Students participate in an A and B block schedule of extended time, allowing for greater focus and depth of study. Each teacher is responsible for the thematic integration of either math and science or English and social studies. The two teachers prepare lessons together to insure high interest, student participation and challenge. In addition to the integrated core curriculum and a physical education class, students will be able to participate in an elective program and advanced math if assessments indicate sufficient ability.
· A total of sixty-four students, two classes, will be admitted for the 2013-14 school year.
· The Charter school is housed on the PJHS campus in two adjoining classrooms, E-2 and E-3, located next to the main office. Both classrooms are fully- equipped science rooms, with wi-fi connectivity, series 800 Interactive Smart Boards, individual I-pads, and their own set of lockers immediately outside.
· Students will be challenged to maintain excellent attendance, show responsibility and respect to everyone, use technology wisely, and set and achieve goals for their learning and participation. Parents will be asked to take an active role as well, participating and volunteering their talents to school projects.
· Application packets will be available upon request beginning December 17 and completed applications are due February 22. Come join us for a new learning experience!
A program information night for all interested students and parents will be held Monday, December 17, at 6:30 pm in the PJHS multi-purpose room. Please join us to hear about our first successful year and what we have planned for the next.

La Academia Charter Para Sexto Grado en la
Escuela Secundaria Petaluma Junior
Continuando con el cometido de nuestro distrito de proveer oportunidades de aprendizaje innovativas y rigurosas, la escuela charter para sexto grado, establecida en 2011, se enfocará en un plan de estudios integrado, ofreciendo materias electivas y aprendizaje con asistencia tecnológica. Dos maestros trabajarán en conjunto para proveer las conexiones necesarias entre los planes de estudios enfatizando en habilidades de pensamiento/razonamiento avanzados. Los estudiantes participarán de un horario en bloques de tiempo extendido A y B que les permitirá enfocarse en forma mas profunda en sus estudios. Cada maestro será responsable por la integración temática de tanto sea matemáticas y ciencias, o inglés y estudios sociales. Los dos maestros prepararán las lecciones juntos para asegurar el alto interés, la participación de los estudiantes y ofrecer un desafío académico. En adición al plan de estudios integrado y a una clase de educación física, los estudiantes podrán elegir una clase del programa tradicional electivo de PJHS.
· Un total de sesenta y cuatro estudiantes, dos clases, serán admitidos para el año escolar 2012-13.
· La escuela Charter esta localizada en el recinto de PJHS en dos salones de clase adjuntos, E-2 y E-3, localizados cerca de la oficina principal. Los dos salones de clase están totalmente equipados para ciencias, wi-fi conexión, Ipads para todos los alumnos, y tienen sus propios casilleros afuera e inmediatos a los salones.
· Se desafiará a los estudiantes a mantener asistencia excelente, mostrar responsabilidad y respeto a los demás, usar tecnología sabiamente, y establecer y lograr metas para el aprendizaje y la participación. Se pide a los padres que tomen un rol activo también, participando y siendo voluntarios en proyectos escolares.
· Los paquetes de solicitud estarán disponibles comenzando el 17 de diciembre y las solicitudes completas deben ser entregadas antes del 22 de febrero. ¡Únase a nosotros para una nueva experiencia de aprendizaje!
Se llevará a cabo una noche informativa sobre el programa para todos los estudiantes y padres interesados el jueves 17 de diciembre a las 6:30 PM en el salón de usos múltiples de PJHS.
