Dear Parents and Students, Wednesday, June 8, 2011
Greetings! At this time we have sixty two applicants, fifty four of whom have taken the math and reading assessments and turned in their registration materials. If you are one of the eight who have yet to take the assessments please plan to attend a make up next Wednesday, June 15, at 12:00-2:00 at PJHS. If this time doesn’t work for you please call me at 778-4724 or email me at jlehmann@pet.k12.ca.us to make other plans. If you have taken the assessment but not turned in the registration materials, please do so as soon as possible. Registration packets may be picked up and turned in to the main office at PJHS, Monday through Friday 8:30-3:00 pm.
Both 6th grade teachers, Danna Rocca (English and Social Studies) and Danny Bever, (Math and Science) have been meeting with me and curricular consultants to prepare their classrooms and lessons. We hired a P.E. consultant, Sue Oaks, who has worked at the junior high level, and most recently as an elementary Physical Education expert, to being planning for P.E. The librarian met with both teachers to review resources and provide a tour of the new library as well. A fall library orientation will be part of the English curriculum for all students.
We have ordered Ipads2 for staff and students and have in-service scheduled for the teachers in July. Additionally, we took a meeting last week with a representative of the Smart Interactive Boards. We are looking at the 800 hundred series which allows two students to interact with the board simultaneously as the teacher controls and interacts as well. Progress is being made on renovating the classrooms and materials are being ordered. It is all very exciting to see the team work and the program develop. Report to the office. Math will take place in room I-1 and English literacy in the library.
